Tekashi 6ix9ine is making the most of his home confinement.
The Brooklyn rapper, 24, is expected to drop a new song Friday, a towering billboard spotted in Times Square confirms. He is also expected to make an appearance on Instagram Live at 3 p.m. today, he told fans.
The “Gummo” rapper was released early from prison for racketeering and other charges due to his high risk of catching the coronavirus from behind bars — he suffers from asthma, his lawyers said. He’s been allowed to serve the remainder of his two-year sentence under house arrest, which appears to be working out well for his career: Last month, a federal judge ruled that 6ix9ine could record music videos in his backyard.
“The defendant is permitted to conduct employment-related activities outside the residence but within the confines of the rented property for two (2) hours per week on one (1) specific day that needs advanced approval by the Probation Officer,” Judge Paul Engelmayer wrote.
And it’s likely this video will be relatively calm compared to his previous video sets, which have been plagued by gun violence. In 2018, while filming a video with Kanye West and Nicki Minaj in a rented Beverly Hills mansion, shots were fired through the window, according to news reports at the time.
