Moreover, the MTA has worked closely with its unions to assure that employees are as protected as possible from a virus that has proved to be an international challenge. The safety of employees and customers remains the MTA’s top priority. We have taken numerous actions to protect their health, including distributing 75,000 masks, minimizing the number of crews needed through flexible scheduling, implementing rear-door boarding on buses, and ending most cash transactions. Additionally, we’re doing everything we can to increase staffing on our employee hotline which was set up so workers could receive guidance if they experience coronavirus symptoms.
